Brewhalla New Westminster is this weekend, and here’s what attendees can expect at the inaugural event!
Red Door Events, the company behind the popular Brewhalla Festivals, is getting ready to host their next event on Saturday, August 10th, a brand new festival at Queen’s Park in New Westminster. The festival’s theme, ‘Life On The River’, is a nod to the Fraser River that runs south of the City. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best costume that embraces their own interpretation of river life, whether that be a pirate, mermaid, fisher, kayaker, salmon or boater. To fully embrace the theme, festival goers can test their skills on the interactive ride on surfboard, or challenge a friend at the water gun shoot out.
Brewhalla New Westminster’s Craft Beverage vendors include New West locals Another Beer Co,, Steel & Oak Brewing Co., and Heartberry Soda, as well as Trading Post Brewing Co., Mariner Brewing, Five Roads Brewing Co., Tinhouse Brewing Co., R&B Brewing Co., Taylight Brewing, Grey Fox Brewing, Fuggles Beer Co., Farm Country Brewing, Changing Colours Brewing Project, Silverstar Brewing Company, Shuswap Cider Co., Sea Cider Farmhouse, Humblebee Meadery, Roots And Wings Distillery, Bali Water Premium Vodka Beverages, Driftwood Spirits, Lolo Cocktails and zero proof options Dry Goods, Edna’s Non Alcoholic Cocktails and Oddity Kombucha.
The live music lineup will feature festival favourites, Side One, a well known cover band, as well as up and coming local rock band, Big Fuzz, and DJ Christian Flores. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs, set up a spot in the grass, and spend the afternoon enjoying the music, drinks and sunshine. When the hunger kicks in, guests can choose from Super Thai, S for Skewer, Munchu Picchu, Japadog, Mr. Arancino and Meet 2 Eat, the six food trucks on site that will have food available for purchase. Those looking for an even bigger craft experience can participate in a Cocktail Class lead by Kevin O’Neill from Driftwood Spirits in Victoria.
Festival attendees will have the chance to win big with contests throughout the day with prizing that includes a $500 paddleboard, 2 tickets to the Paddlewheeler Riverboat Cruise, gift cards to local companies and more! If you’re attending the festival, they encourage you to take transit, or get a ride to and from the event. If you’re taking the skytrain to site, Key West Ford, a sponsor of the festival, is offering complimentary rides back to the Sky Train station for all guests.
