A quote by Emily Carr in her book “Hundreds and Thousands”, reinforces Randy’s belief that movement in a painting is so important. “Movement is the essence of being. If there is no movement in the painting, then it is dead paint.”

Randy Oliver is formally trained in fine art from the University of Alberta and The University of British Columbia. His studio is located in Vancouver. The abstractions in this exhibition deliver a feeling of movement and excitement. His work in general includes both abstract and representational paintings. He has been involved in a number of juried and group exhibitions.

“I’m interested in conveying emotion in my work. I want to portray a kind of emotional excitement. In order to achieve this feeling, I incorporate movement and energy in my abstracts. The movement is often directional, meaning that it flows through the composition… The painting process that I employed for these works, is an intuitive approach that has a structural component utilizing relationships between elements such as colour, space, and form.”

See Randy’s work right now in the Gallery at Queen’s Park!
Exhibition Dates: Aug. 1 – 25, 2024
