Artist Statement

I was born and raised in Vancouver. Upon graduating from Vancouver Tech High School in 1962 I enrolled at Vancouver Art School for a four year course. The school is now known as Emily Carr. This course gave me the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with many artists.

Instructors at the school included Don Jarvis, Jack Shadbolt, Takoe Tanabe, Roy Kiyooka, Ron Stonier and Orville Fisher.

I use acrylics, watercolour and pen and ink in most of my art work. I work with figures, shapes and lines combined to tell my story on each canvas or paper.

Since retirement from my newspaper work, I’ve been spending a lot more time painting and drawing. I feel my work now is satisfying for the most part. I’m always looking ahead to the next painting or drawing.
