Cedar, Sage & Sweetgrass Indigenous Art Group to exhibit at The Gallery at Queen’s Park in July 2021
New Westminster, BC – The Arts Council of New Westminster is proud to present an upcoming group exhibition by the Cedar, Sage and Sweetgrass Indigenous Art Group in The Gallery at Queen’s Park from July 2-25, 2021. The exhibition will feature a variety of Indigenous artworks in various mediums, including work by Kalum Teke Dan (Calgary), Uumati Kisoun (Victoria), and Susan Greig (New Westminster). On Saturday, July 3, there is an Opening Reception from 1 – 2 pm, featuring remarks from Elder Deanna Miller of the Katzie Nation, local dignitaries, and dancing by The Wild Moccasin Dancers. All are welcome to attend.
“As Indigenous Artists, we found that our art was not accepted to be part of shows in some of our community’s art galleries.” said Maryanne Lindberg, CS&SG spokesperson. “In speaking with other Indigenous Artists, we found that they experienced the same situation. We created Cedar Sage & Sweetgrass with the goal of giving Indigenous Artists a forum where they could show their best art, connect and encourage one another.”
The Gallery at Queen’s Park hosts monthly exhibitions that feature a variety of visual arts by a wide range of artists from the Metro Vancouver region. The exhibition program aims to reflect both the cultural and artistic diversity of contemporary art and serve as an educational forum for New Westminster and surrounding communities.
Following the most current Provincial Health Order, the exhibition and Opening reception will follow the Arts Council of New Westminster’s COVID-19 Safety Plan protocols and require masks and contract tracing upon arrival.

Cedar Sage & Sweetgrass Indigenous Art Group seeks to encourage and promote young Indigenous Artists. That has been accomplished through interaction with our Feature Artist and other accomplished Artists that are in our shows. We have been happy to have all three Indigenous Peoples recognized in Canada – First Nations, Metis, Inuit – represented at most of our shows. Each of our shows has its own uniqueness. The Artists are chosen for that particular show, including a Feature Artist. Some shows include Indigenous entertainment. Others have Indigenous food, wine, coffee, tea. It’s an opportunity to show all wonderful Indigenous things.
