We are thrilled to announce the Opening Reception of Cedar Sage & Sweetgrass’s exhibit at the Anvil Center on Thursday, June 20th, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm!
Meet the artists and enjoy a performance by Derek “Manik1derful” Edenshaw.
Derek is an Indigenous multidisciplinary creative. He became well known for his hip hop and spoken word performances but has since expanded into the visual arts, film and television world. He is the premier knowledge keeper on the Native Hip Hop movement and is known to deliver heart wrenching performances both locally and abroad.
Cedar Sage & Sweetgrass seeks to encourage and promote young Indigenous Artists. We created Cedar Sage & Sweetgrass with the goal of giving Indigenous Artists a forum where they could show their best art, connect and encourage one another.
This exhibit is entitled “Under My Wing”. Taken under the wing means protection and keeping warm and dry, generally showing the ropes, coaching and nurturing. It’s a reference to birds, who when they perceive danger, gather their chicks together and cover them with a wing.
Artists featured in “Under My Wing” include Maryanne Lindberg-Landrie, Pat Calihou, James Groening, Sheila Rae Lowe, Chantelle Trainor-Matties, Ryan Hughes, Jerry Whitehead, and Feature Artist Ronald George Straight!
Can’t wait to see you on June 20th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Anvil Center!
Exhibition Dates: June 3rd – July 31st, 2024
Gallery Hours: Friday – Wednesday from 10:00am – 5:00pm, and Thursdays from 10:00am – 8:00pm
