EXHIBITION STATEMENT
I have had a life long passion for creating visuals from emotions, inspired by what comes from within. Extensive studies of body structure & kinetics over the years, as both an RMT & yoga teacher, has influenced my painting representations of natural elements. I’m intrigued by the exploration of our environments & finding different ways to communicate the feelings of what I see through painting. Living in the beauty of the BC West Coast lends inspiration to diverse creative endeavors, & there is an abundance of ever-changing elements & settings to explore through painting. I have enjoyed sharing these works in galleries and exhibitions, along with the pleasure of broadening communications with those who connect with what I create.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Victoria Mitchell was born in 1971 and raised in Vancouver BC. As a quiet child, she found a comfort and a stimulating way to relate with those around her through art. She was consequently given opportunities to attend workshops and receive private instruction from local teachers and career artists. Her early foray into the art world landed her scholarships and exhibitions including paintings displayed by the Medical Research Council of Canada, and at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
In 1993 she shifted her focus toward a 22 year career as a Registered Massage Therapist, and yoga instructor. In 2017 she left RMT work, for time to re-ignite her work as an artist, her life long passion.
Inspired by her continuing studies of body structure and kinetics, she ventures from these literal points of reference in abstract painting. Exploring broader emotional and visceral impacts through a variety of representations has been an important part of what she communicates, leaving room for variable interpretations. She also seeks to understand and express her natural surroundings, through a variety of landscapes and biological elements.
Victoria’s work is exhibited in various galleries throughout the year, and carries out her explorations and commission works, in her BC based studio.
