Festival of Loss and Healing | May 2, 2020
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
We invite all visual artists from Metro Vancouver to submit photographic images for a group exhibition during the Festival of Loss and Healing in New Westminster, British Columbia. Reproductions of submitted images will be featured in a pop-up exhibition at the New Westminster Festival of Loss and Healing on May 2, 2020.
The theme of the exhibition is “The Compassionate I : Personal Images of Loss & Healing”.
In recognizing how diverse our community is, and in order to break down any exclusionary barriers and create a platform for marginalized voices, we specifically encourage artists with lived experience of homelessness, poverty, and substance use to submit. Artists on the LGBTQ spectrum, non-binary artists, artists of colour, Indigenous artists, and disabled artists, are strongly encouraged to submit.
Submissions will be received up to 4:00pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2020
Overview:
This Call for Submissions is for photographs engaging the broad themes of loss and healing. These images will become an important part of the May 2020 New West Hospice Society’s Festival of Loss & Healing in New Westminster. A whole range of loss affects the human condition. Loss of loved ones including pets, loss of home, ability, identity, and so on. With loss comes different modes of healing. There is no correct response to loss, nor right way to go about healing – it is very individual and personal.
We are seeking all types of photographic images for this contest. Images can be black & white or colour; captured by digital camera, film camera, or a phone. They can be of people, places, things — realistic or abstract. Anything goes. Images should be an interpretation of loss and healing and captured by a compassionate eye / I.
Although not mandatory, you are welcome to submit a short synopsis to enhance the story of your image.
One image per entry will be allowed. All varieties of photographic methods will be considered including Phone Camera, Digital Camera, and Film/Polaroid. Up to nine images will be selected by the jury to be included in the pop-up exhibition.
Please note: The New West Hospice Society will reserve the right to retain the reproductions of the selected images and may be auctioned off in support of the New West Hospice Society. Digital images will may also display on the New West Hospice website and promotional materials
