Interested in sharing expertise and making a difference to the New Westminster arts community? The Arts Council of New Westminster (ACNW) is seeking (10) Seniors to join the “Seniors Expressions Through the Arts” volunteer programming committee.
This committee will meet weekly on Tuesday mornings from January to May 2020 to brainstorm ideas, plan, and deliver monthly arts activities at the Centennial Lodge. Term: January 10, 2020 to May 30, 2020. Time required is approximately 2 hours per week. Although we will meet weekly, committee members may be asked to dedicate considerable periods of time to the delivery of each activity of the project.
Who are you? Committee members are volunteers with professional experience in their fields who enjoy working and interacting with others and have a positive attitude. As volunteers, committee members receive no remuneration for their work. Seniors Coordinator will provide ongoing support and administration for the committee.
Why join? Committee members create connections and community through the arts and promote the ACNW at public events. The Committee also works to improve artists’ networks, reduce social isolation in seniors, and build continuity and presence through ongoing involvement in community events.
Role of Committee Members:
Committee members will be supported by the Coordinator to develop, curate, promote, and produce monthly arts events at the Centennial Lodge in New Westminster; develop, create, and promote a brand-new “Arts Passport” designed to encourage frequent engagement in the thriving arts and culture community; and lay the foundation for year-round arts programming with a focus on Seniors. Committee members will review program delivery, and advise the Board of Directors on the needs of the arts community and general policy matters.
Committee members responsibilities:
- Attend weekly committee meetings, email/call the committee chair or coordinator as needed;
- Attend and support arts events representing ACNW. Responsibilities for each event vary depending on the needs of the organizer/artist;
- Maintain interest and curiosity for the New West arts community
- Promote arts events in person, through their networks, and online.
Committee members are viewed as representatives of The Arts Council of New Westminster and must conduct themselves in an appropriately professional manner, respecting their ACNW responsibilities and obligations and following the Ground Rules for Group Deliberations and Consensus Building as approved by the Board, January 2016.
Criteria for Committee Membership
Committee members must:
- Be aged 55+;
- Be willing to engage in the development and implementation of arts events;
- Have no real or perceived bias respecting any special interest group while serving as committee members;
- Consider the best interests of the entire community;
- Be willing and able to make a significant contribution of time during their tenure.
